Hand Tools


Hand Tools have a lot more variety than Power Tools. They have been around for centuries and are continually improving. They are extremely useful in hundreds of different applications. Not as many safety precautions need to be considered when compared to Power Tools, but this does not mean that they can be ignored. They come with their own Hazards, Risks & Management Procedures. These are:

Hazards:
● Sharp Blades
● Pinch Point
● Projectiles
● Moving/Swinging Parts
● Sharp Points
● Unnecessary Force

This is a Marking Gauge. It is used for marking uniform lines on a project.

This is a Claw Hammer. It is used for inserting and removing nails from a project.

Risks:
● Damage to Tool/Job
● Self Harm / Harm to others
● Impact Injuries
● Hearing/Sight Damage
● Fractured/Broken Bones

This is a Tri-Square. It is used to assist with marking square lines on a project.

This is a Wooden Mallet. It is used to assist other tools where manual strength will not do. It must not be used to drive in nails.

Management:
● Confidence
● Proper Use
● Controlled Motions
● Hold at bottom of handle
● Communication
● Clamp work when possible

This is a Chisel. It is used to accurately remove material from a project.

This is a Tenon Saw. It is used to cut material to a desired size.
